Larry Perkins and Russell Ingall won the 1995 Tooheys 1000, driving the number 11 Castrol Commodore, in what was literally a last to first victory.
The Castrol team has the worst possible start when Larry Perkins clashed with Craig Lowndes on the opening lap of the 1995 Bathurst 1000 and headed into the pits with a puncture. After carefully nursing the car back to the pits, Perkins tore back into the fray with little to lose, and one by one the leaders eliminated themselves.
Larry and co-driver Russell made steady progress through the field and had reached 8th place when the leaders Bowe and Seton, collided on lap 93. With less than 20 laps to go Perkins caught Seton but knew that getting past would be a tough call. On lap 153 Seton’s Ford expired handing the race to the Castrol Commodore VR.
This 1995 winning Commodore has been immaculately maintained and presented by its owner David Shewan.
