This was the year that completed the hat trick of wins for Peter Brock and Larry Perkins.
Having won the previous two years in the VH Commodore, the VK model on debut proved to be the dominant force. In fact GMH had not forgotten the humiliation of the famous Ford 1-2 in 1977 and staged their own version, with the John Harvey/David Parsons MHDT car crossing the line just behind "Peter Perfect".
1984 was also the end of Group 'C' regulations, the "Last of the Big Bangers" was how this car was portrayed in the motor racing media. From 1985 Australia would race to the international Group 'A' regulations creating more variety of makes for the fans and ultimately leading to the "Turbo Era".
