Before you is the 1977 Hardie-Ferodo 1000 winning car. The Moffat Ford Dealers’ XC Falcon driven by Allan Moffat and Jacky Ickx.
The Moffat Team Falcons had won 6 of the 8 rounds before Bathurst 1977 (including 5 as 1-2) and with the newly homologated A9X Toranas, this was built as a real new age car.
Colin Bond had jumped from the Holden Dealer Team to join as lead driver in the No 2 Moffat Ford Dealer Falcon with Porsche star Allan Hamilton. In the closing laps Alan Moffat’s car was slowing down, due to smoking brakes, Bond would have taken the lead, albeit, for the instruction board from the pits stating “Form Finish 1-2” which forced Bond to slow down giving us those memorable shots of both cars side by side down Conrod Straight.
The form finish is still regarded as one of the most lingering memories of the 1970’s and was perhaps the most famous win for Ford and Allan Moffat.
